Just in case you were feeling confused, my name is NOT Jessica or Jess.

I literally had two people right after I said, "My name is Jenny, how can I help you," say something like Thanks Jess.....

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

For the love of Peter, Paul, and Mary, I should be at home asleep. I'm just sayin'.

Oh yeah and apparently I'm a Ninja. Good to know....

Rock on Jess!

Everyone gets "Chris".

My last name is a subject of somewhat more consternation.

Compounding the effect is the fact that there is another "Chris D." at my company. There are six of us, and two of us collide on "firstname Lastinitial."

Bah.

Yeah kind like, I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is Jen-nee. :) I've heard that a time or two. :)

Yeah I'm horrible with pronouncing people's names. I always apologize before I butcher a person's name or just ask them what it is.

I have a slightly different problem...

My name is Jennifer. Jennifer. Not Jenny, not Jen, not Jenn. REALLY not Jenn.

My family and people who knew me before I was 8 are allowed to call me Jenny. FRIENDS are allowed to call me Jen. Random people who shorten my name without asking receive my hate.

Professionally I usually introduce myself as Jennifer. It's mostly out of habit.

Of course I've been called just about everything in life Becky, Amy, hey you. :)

Jenny is pretty standard for most people.

You'd better know me if you're calling me Jen though. That is way too friendly for a stranger.

I was once nicknamed Jen-Jen b/c there were too many of us running around.

It's a rather versatile name, but you really can't get Jess or Jessica out of it. I don't care how hard you try.

My sister calls me Jen-Jen. My niece knows me as Auntie Jen-Jen to the extent she knows me at all.

I have never been called Jessica. In high school there were so many bloody Jennifers in my class that we got called by last names.

Yeah there were 6 Jenny's in my 6th grade class.

I think we were more known by full names. It's just odd.

I wanted to change my name when I was little to something more unknown. I'm used to it now and like my name despite others who cringe when they hear it. :)

I bet you're between 32 and 36 years old, aren't you? That would be the peak of the Jennifers.

I swear it was "Love Story" and the aftermath that did it.
I remember the Shirk boy not recalling your name even though I dated "Jenn"'s almost exclusively.
Throw them off. Say it's "John". Then bat eyelashes suggestively.

Mine wasn't because of Love Story. I've asked.

Shirk knows my name now. Sometimes I think he regrets never having his chance with me. Lucky for me, I don't. :)

I suppose I could just start saying my name is Jessica and then they'll call me Jenny. It was just odd to get two calls in a row like that. Very annoying.

Actually I just turned 29. Close enough though. I think it started to dwindle after my year. But there are still people out there naming their kids Jennifer. I ran into a few when student teaching. Although with the whole Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez craze, I'm sure the name has come back with a vengenance. :)

Ah, you were not born during the ABSOLUTE peak. I was a 1971 baby and Jennifer was the #1 name. My father picked it because it was so unusual.

Thanks, that's a neat little page. The binning distribution could be tighter, but apparently my name was ranked 33rd in the 70s, 16th in the 80s, and 15th in the 90s... I always knew I was ahead my time. :)

It's interesting all right. I don't know how this group mind thing works, but I have four nieces: Emma, Abigail, Faith, and Kaia. All those names were low, but started shooting up right around the times the various nieces were born.

Of course, I went and picked a name for my son that is ALWAYS up there - #2 in the 1980s but at least it's down to #10 now.
